A Little Bit About MePORTFOLIO |
There have been three phases in her art career. She devoted years to studying the history
and development of art from cave art to 20th century movements. She was born in South Africa and was fortunate to work with the preeminent and renowned historian Esme Berman, researching and publishing the authoritative books and guides for gallery owners, museum curators and private collectors. The second phase was devoted to sculpting using the lost-wax method to produce work in bronze, marble and plaster of paris. The tactile sensation and 3-D experience of clay was rewarding, but the love of color and intrigue with large scale canvases, led her to move into the third phase of art, painting on canvas. Now admired for her versatility in media, style and size, she also moves between realism and abstraction. But she is most adept at larger scale works in acrylics augmented by various additives to enhance the visual with a tactile quality. Her choice of color is tied closely to the emotive quality of the subject, whether it be sunset, the ocean or the movement of a figure. She has an eclectic range of favorite artists ranging from Milton Avery, Modigliani, Lucian Freud, Raoul Dufy, and Munch. Barbara exhibited and sold work at the Larchmont Library in Spring of 2015. She generously donates work for auction to charitable events. |
